Application Strategy
Red Flags in Entry-Level Job Postings
Spot bait-and-switch roles before you waste an hour applying.
Entry-level job postings are full of noise. Aggregators repost expired roles. Some companies label senior jobs as "junior" to widen the applicant pool. Others list stipends that parsers display as annual salary. Learning to spot red flags before you spend an hour on an application saves time and protects you from scams.
Experience mismatch: the most common trap
**Red flag:** Title says "Junior Software Engineer" or "Fresher" but requirements list 3 to 5 years experience, architect-level skills, or "must have led a team."
**Why it happens:** HR uses template postings. Recruiters want a wide funnel. Sometimes the role is mis-leveled.
**What to do:** Read minimum experience line first. If it says 3+ years, skip unless you have exceptional projects. Do not hope they will overlook the requirement.
fresherGO filters listings by experience tier at ingest so 0 to 2 year roles are separated from senior postings.
Salary numbers that do not make sense
**Red flag:** 12,000 or 25,000 listed as annual CTC for a full-time engineer role in a major city.
**Likely cause:** Monthly stipend misparsed as yearly pay. Hourly contract rate displayed wrong. Aggregator data error.
**What to do:** Check original posting on company ATS. Compare to market ranges in our salary guides. If still unclear, ask recruiter before investing in multi-round interviews.
**Red flag:** Extremely high salary for zero requirements ("earn 50 LPA fresher work from home").
**Likely cause:** Scam, MLM, or sales role disguised as tech.
Vague job descriptions
**Red flag:** No product description. No tech stack. Phrases like "rockstar," "ninja," "wear many hats" with no specifics.
**Why it matters:** You cannot tailor a resume or assess fit. Vague posts often mean the hiring manager has not defined the role.
**What to do:** Proceed only if company is well known. Otherwise deprioritize.
Posting quality signals
**Green flags:**
- Listed on company ATS (Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby)
- Specific stack and team context
- Clear experience range ("0 to 2 years")
- Salary range disclosed (where legal)
- Application goes to company domain, not personal Gmail
**Red flags:**
- Only on generic aggregator with no link to official page
- Gmail or Yahoo contact for "HR" at supposed MNC
- Upfront payment for training, laptop deposit, or background check
- WhatsApp-only recruitment process
- Job description copied from different company (search a sentence on Google)
Company legitimacy checks
Before applying to an unfamiliar name:
- Company website loads with real product information
- LinkedIn company page exists with employees matching claimed size
- Careers page on own domain, not only third-party boards
- Glassdoor or similar reviews (read patterns, not single reviews)
Role type bait-and-switch
**Red flag:** "Software Engineer" but interview is pure sales pitch.
**Red flag:** "Business development" or "growth hacker" with no engineering interview.
**Red flag:** Unpaid "training period" of 1 to 3 months before "real" employment.
Legitimate companies pay for work from day one of employment. Internships have defined stipends and duration.
Location and remote mislabeling
**Red flag:** "Remote" but fine print requires relocation to office within 30 days.
**Red flag:** "Work from anywhere" but only hires from one non-disclosed country list.
Read location and work arrangement fields completely.
How fresherGO reduces red flag exposure
- Jobs ingested from verified ATS feeds, not scraped spam boards
- Experience tier classification at parse time
- Senior roles excluded from default fresher view
- Salary parsing with currency and period context where available
You should still read each posting critically. No platform catches every bad listing. These checks protect you.
When to report or avoid
Avoid immediately: payment requests, crypto-only compensation for employment, pressure to sign before meeting engineering team.
Deprioritize: experience mismatch, vague descriptions, suspicious salary.
Apply with confidence: ATS-backed, clear requirements, company verifiable, matches your tier.
